All's Well That Ends Well

by William Shakespeare

Directed by Liana Olear

A rarely performed comedy, All's Well That Ends Well retells that old story of a young person employing wits, courage, friendship and questionable ethics to win a noble marriage.

Shakespeare's twist on the classic tale is that the plucky protagonist is a girl, the intelligent and impulsive Helena, a famous doctor's daughter raised in the household of the Countess of Roussillon, and the reluctant prize is a boy, the young Count Bertram, who is not ready to marry anyone at all, let alone his mother's ward. The Rude Mechanicals add their own dash of girl power: a world much like ours, but dominated by the female King of France and her court of Ladies.

All may be well that ends well, but whose idea of a happy ending will it be?
