Baptista Minola is a wealthy and trendsetting gallery owner, the mother of two daughters, Katherina and Bianca. Living in the shadow of her adored younger sister, Katherina is denied the love and attention of her mother and peers, becoming jaded and ill-tempered. Free-thinking newcomer Petruchio, seeking a wife and wealth, not necessarily in that order, resolves to pay her a lost lifetime of attention. Meanwhile, Bianca's suitors, Lucentio, Hortensio and Gremia employ tricks and disguises to win the elite prize of her hand in marriage. One of Shakespeare's most famous but also controversial plays because of its portrayal of women, The Taming of the Shrew is the classic story of playing hard-to-get.
